Mnemonics, or memoria technica, was the name applied to devices for aiding the memory. Mnemonic techniques typically associate information to be retained with something that is easier to remember. Mnemonics in antiquity were most often considered in the context of what is today known as the art of memory.from Wikipedia

Memory rooms (also known as memory palaces or memory castles) feature heavily in Mnemonics. The memory room above is from Ideatypics; or, an Art of Memory by William Tanner Imeson.
The image shows a memory system using a mental "room" divided into 50 specific places, arranged along the floor, four walls, and ceiling. This system helps people remember information by associating it with visualized locations. If more than 50 spots are needed, a second identical room is used, adding 50 to each original position (e.g., place 31 becomes 81).
