This is simply a description in verse of the journey of the wife and daughter of Kakogawa Honzô from the eastern capital to Kiyôto, the object of which is sufficiently indicated in the succeeding Book. An attempt at a metrical rendering of this portion of the text will be found in the Appendix, it being thought that an insertion of it in this place would interfere with the action of the story.
