PREFACE.

THE object of this little volume is to induce women to take an interest in a subject so deeply concerning them, but of which the majority are wofully ignorant.

The writer has attempted to represent a possible picture of "what might have been" had the Deceased Wife's Sister Bill been passed in 1884. That any woman can treat with indifference a matter so deeply affecting the happiness of her sex and eventually, as we believe, the morality of the country at large, surely only argues ignorance of the true importance of the question. It is hoped that the few arguments ​that have been chosen as specially striking and easily grasped, may provoke the reader to a careful study of the subject.
