Translation:Shulchan Aruch/Orach Chaim/285

285: To Read the Parsha; Twice – Scripture, and once – Targum.

1 Even though a person hears the whole entire Torah each Sabbath in public, he is obligated to read for himself each week the parashah of that week, twice – scripture, and once – Targum; even "Atarot and Divon".

2 If one learnt the parashah with Rashi's commentary, it is counted like Targum, and one who fears Heaven should read Targum and also Rashi's commentary.

3 From the First Day and onward is considered 'with the congregation.'

4 The 'choicest' way to perform the commandment is that one should complete it before he will eat on Sabbath. And if he didn't finish before eating, he should finish after eating until Mincha. And there are those who say until the fourth of the week. And there are those who say until Shmini Atzeret (which means on Simchat Torah, for then the community finishes.

5 One could read the parashah twice scripture and once Targum at the time of the Torah reading. (And see above, Siman 146).

6 Teachers of children do not need to repeat and read the parashah on Sabbath.

7 There is no need to read the parashah of a festival. Gloss: And similarly, there is no need to read the haftarahs (Mordechai, "Small Halachas"). And nevertheless, the custom is to read the haftarah. And on the week of a wedding, one should read the haftarah of Sabbath, and not 'I will surely rejoice.' (Piskei Mahara"i, No. 101).
