Translation:Shulchan Aruch/Orach Chaim/260
260ː Laws Governing the Onset of Shabbos. Contains 2 seifim.
1 It is a mitzvah to wash gloss: one's whole body. And if it is not possible for him, he should wash (Tur) his face, his hands, and his feet, with warm water, on the Eve of Shabbat. And it is a mitzvah to wash one's head and to cut one's nails on the Eve of Shabbat. Gloss: And if the hair of one's head was long, it is a mitzvah to cut it (Or Zarua, Chapter "These Shave"). And when one cuts one's nails, one should not cut them in their order. And one should begin on the left, with the ring finger, and on the right, with the index finger. And a memory cue for this is 4,2,5,3,1 on the left, and 2,4,1,3,5 on the right (Avudraham in Sefer HaMussar).
2 When it will be close to dark, one should ask of the people of his household in a gentle toneː "Have you tithed? Have you established the eruv? Have you separated challah?" And he should say to them, "light the candle". And in a place where one does not tithe, one does not need to say, "Have you tithed?" (Tur).
