Stokes's Pictorial Multiplication Table/Explanation
EXPLANATIONS.
Each figure is represented by an object, as named in the Rhyme. The "Table" is in Twelve Divisions, each of which is in Twelve similar Subdivisions; their local and numerical arrangement may be learned at a glance.
That which has been shown once is not repeated; thus, "Twice 1" is omitted, as it is given in "Once 2," "Three times 2" is blank, as it is the same as "Twice 3." Observe, "Twice" begins in the Second Subdivision of the Second Division, "Three Times" begins in the Third Subdivision of the Third Division, "Four Times" begins in the Fourth Subdivision of the Fourth Division, and so on throughout.
"Twice 10=20," "Twice 11=22," "3 times 10=30," "3 times 11=33," etc., are so easily learned that they do not require Pictures.
