The Book of Genesis (Hebrew: בְּרֵאשִׁית, Bərēʾšīṯ, "in [the] beginning"), is the first book of the Hebrew Bible and the beginning of the Christian Old Testament. Genesis purports to be an account of the creation of the world, the early history of humanity, and the origins of the Jewish people.
