Poems (Taylor)/The End of the Way
THE END OF THE WAY
Much have I seen by the winding way;
And much have I desired.
What is the end of it all to-day?—
Jesu, I am tired!
And much have I desired.
What is the end of it all to-day?—
Jesu, I am tired!
I met with Love amid the dew;
At noon with Shame and Wrath;—
At sunset those three gibbets threw
Their shadows on my path.
At noon with Shame and Wrath;—
At sunset those three gibbets threw
Their shadows on my path.
No beauty can I bear to see.
Too much have I desired.
Here is a wayside Calvary!
Jesu, I am tired.
Too much have I desired.
Here is a wayside Calvary!
Jesu, I am tired.
