Poems (Rumell)/Builders
BUILDERS
Through passion and pain and suffering,
Great trials, deep troubles and stress,
In years we gain a spiritual stronghold,
That we may loose in one moment's weakness!
Great trials, deep troubles and stress,
In years we gain a spiritual stronghold,
That we may loose in one moment's weakness!
Great dams, 'gainst mighty waters are builded,
Of strong concrete, iron girders and rock:
Just one faulty place, and though gilded-
It is no stronger than that one tiny spot!
Of strong concrete, iron girders and rock:
Just one faulty place, and though gilded-
It is no stronger than that one tiny spot!
And so-as we build this life's bulwark,
With all that is unclean, from us shorn,
If we leave one tiny weakness unguarded,
We may fail, that, for which we were born!
With all that is unclean, from us shorn,
If we leave one tiny weakness unguarded,
We may fail, that, for which we were born!
