Poems (Edwards)/The Balm of Disappointment
THE BALM OF DISAPPOINTMENT.
There is no sunshine without shade,
No morning without night,
And darkness adds a brighter beam
Of radiance to the light;
The sweetest rose conceals a thorn
Beneath its petals fair,
And if our paths were void of thorns
No flowers would blossom there.
No morning without night,
And darkness adds a brighter beam
Of radiance to the light;
The sweetest rose conceals a thorn
Beneath its petals fair,
And if our paths were void of thorns
No flowers would blossom there.
There is a joy for every grief,
A balm for every woe,
A cordial for each wounded heart
That suffers here below;
A better resting place than this
To faithful spirits given,
Release from all the toils of earth
And lasting peace in Heaven.
A balm for every woe,
A cordial for each wounded heart
That suffers here below;
A better resting place than this
To faithful spirits given,
Release from all the toils of earth
And lasting peace in Heaven.
