Thoughts of You
Life's Vicissitudes
In some far recess of the heart
Fond Contemplation holds apart,
Ambition moves as though it were
A dream ship of the heart's desire;
And through the tempest of our moods,
The ship brings life's vicissitudes.
The cargo is each homely trait
Of love and scorn and trust and hate,
The noble always with the base;
Yet we can sense no equal grace,
We ever are too blind to see
Our promised immortality.
