16. After a while these (amaldar) Managera were dismissed, and
instead, there were sent, from Seringapatam, Nipamat Khan to
command the fort, and Fatteh Saheb to superintend. These two
came and carried on business. As [the poor baron] Sidda Ramappa
Nayu was in distress for want of money he sold the clothes, vessels, &c., (*) which, he had by him, and go struggled on. As be was
seized with illnees, and as he hed heard that his two sons Ramapa
senior and Ramapa junior were slain in the army, and as the youngext son who had been with him, Siddapa Nayudu, was gone a caplive
to Seringapatam, and as his crowned wife the lady Calianamma had
died, all these griefs bowed him down so that he pined, and died in
the year Kilaca, month Kartica, on the day of the full-moon SS. 1710 [13th Nov. 1768.]
CHAPTER EIGHTH.
1, Afterwards, during the rule of Niyamat Khan and Fatih Sahch, Siddaramappa N.’s sons named “Manumappa, N. and Basavappa N. and the sons of hia eldest son Pedda Ramapa N. vis. Sidda Rainappa and Vasanta Rayal, and the (Amma garu) lady mother and others were [alive]: (tle Musulmans] put ail these persons in guard”. Afler a few days, Niyamal Khan of the fort was dismissed, and Aéer Khasim was placed instead. [fe secured the various guards. Then an order artived from 'Tippoo Sultan, directing that the commandant of the fort and the manager should bring offerings for the Bakrecd festival. Thereupon (Kasim ] placed Sayad Husen, the second in command, to rule the fort; while he himself with the (Serishtadars) superintendents preceeded to Sevingapatam. There they paid their respects to Tippoo, who said to Mir Khasim the commandant of the fort, “what is the meaning of your neglecting to obey the command I formerly sent you, directing that two hundred men (belonging to Timma N. of Bengalar, who were op guard
