than I had expected; my firft deftination having been, to have taken Malacca in my way, whither the fhips do not fail, till the lat- ter end of September.
In the mean time, the cargo had been landed, and the fhip had been repaired, at the ifland Onruft, whence she returned to the road of Batavia, in the beginning of Auguft, to take in her loading, for the factory in Bengal.
On the 12th of Auguft, accordingly, Mr. Fleft the caftle at Batavia, at fix o'clock in the morning, accompanied by fome of the members of the government as far as the waterfide, where, with two gentlemen, deputed for that purpofe, by the governor general, he embarked in a boat, which waited for him, and came on board about feven o'clock; the yards were manned in his honour, but no falute was fired. With him came his lady, and their little boy, with a number of flaves, both male and female. The crew of my fhip confifted in feventy- four European failors, and thirty-one Moors or lafcars.
We weighed anchor, about eight o'clock, and fet fail, fteering towards the ifland On-
