Sampling of Wet Goods. Ammendment of paragraph 146 of the code.
The Board, having been in communication with the Commissioners of Inland Revenue, now direct, with reference to the recent increase in the spirit duties, that paragraph 146 of the Warehousing Code be amended as follows:—
One sample of 0.1 gallon may be taken by the proprietor, duty free, from each original cask of wines and spirits imported into the United Kingdom; and from each cask of British spirits, not being less than 20 gallons content, on first deposit in the warehouse, provided it has not been previously sampled. All subsequent samples (except as provided for in paragraph 148) are to be charged with duty at the under-mentioned rates, viz.:—
in the case of spirits,—
(a) Samples of 0.1 gallon of spirits warehoused at a strength not exceeding 26° over proof, to be charged at 1s. each;
(b) Samples of 0.1 gallon of spirits warehoused at a strength exceeding 26° over proof, but not exceeding 46° over proof, to be charged at 1s. 3d. each;
(c) Samples of 0.1 gallon of spirits warehoused at a strength exceeding 46° over proof, to be charged at 1s. 6d. each;
and in the case of wines—
The officers will note their copies of the Code accordingly.
