This was the first collected Edition of Tennyson's works published in England. A new thirty-third section was added or restored to "In Memoriam" in this edition, raising the latest number of sections to 132.

The text of a passage towards the end of the poem was materially altered when it reappeared, in book form, in the following year: this is one of the few important or considerable alterations made in the text of "Idylls of the King," after publication.
