Ramesh laughed.

"l haven't much reputation as a fighting-man but I'm ready."

Jogendra."just wait till the Christmas holidays."

Ramesh. "They don't begin for some days yet Hadn't I better go ahead by myself?"

Jogendra. "No, no, that would never do. It was I who broke off your engagement and I must renew it again by my own efforts. I can't let you go on with the advance-guard and rob me of so congenial a task."

Ramesh. "Then in the meantime I had better-"

Jogendra. "Certainly not! You are my guest for the next ten days. I've polished off all the people there are to quarrel with here and I need a friend's society to enable me to change my tune. I've had nothing to occupy me in the evening so far except to listen to the jackals howling, and I'm in such a parlous state that your voice sounds to me like the sweetest of music !"
