  1. மாமியார் உடை குலைந்தால் வாயாலும் சொல்லக்கூடாது, கையாலும் காட்டக்கூடாது.
    If the dress of a mother-in-law be out of order, it must not be spoken of, or pointed at by the hand.
  2. மாமியார் உடைத்தால் மண்கலம், மருமகள் உடைத்தால் பொன்கலம்.
    If broken by the mother-in-law it is an earthen vessel, if by the daughter-in-law, it is a golden vessel.
  3. மாமியாரைக் கண்டு மருமகன் நாணுகிறதுபோல.
    As the son-in-law is embarrassed in the presence of his mother-in-law.
  4. மாமியார் செத்த ஆறாம் மாதம் மருமகள் கண்ணில் கண்ணீர் வந்ததாம்.
    It is said that six months after the death of the mother-in-law, a tear came into the eye of the daughter-in-law.
  5. மாமியார் செத்து மருமகள் அழுகிறதுபோல.
    Like the wailing of a daughter-in-law, on account of the death of her mother-in-law.
  6. மாமியாரும் சாகாளோ மனக்கவலையும் தீராதோ?
    Will my mother-in-law never die, will my sorrows never end?
  7. மாமியார் வீடு மகா சௌக்கியம்.
    The house of the mother-in-law is very comfortable.
  8. மாயக்காரர் எல்லாம் பாதகர், மாறுபாட்டுக்காரர் எல்லாம் சாதகர்.
    All impostors are perfidious villains, all double-dealers are practically so.
  9. மாயக்காரன் பேயிற் கடையே.
    A hypocrite is worse than a demon.
  10. மாரி அல்லது காரியம் இல்லை.
    Without rain nothing can be effected.
