  1. மயிர் பிளக்க வகைதேடினாற்போல.
    Like seeking means to split a hair.
  2. மயிலாப்பூர் ஏரி உடைத்துப்போகிறது என்றால், வருகிற கமிட்டிக்கு ஆகட்டும் என்றாற்போல.
    Like saying it may be deferred to the next committee, on hearing that the Mylapore tank has given way.
  3. மயிலே மயிலே என்றால் இறகு கொடுக்குமா?
    If you exclaim O peacock, O peacock, will it give you its feathers?
  4. மயிற் கண்ணிக்கு மசக்கை, மாப்பிள்ளைக்கு அவஸ்தை.
    The peacock-eyed bride is phrensied, her bridegroom is in anguish.
  5. மரணத்திலும் கெட்ட மார்க்கத்துக்குப் பயப்படு.
    Be more afraid of a vicious course than of death.

    The tree affords shade to him who fells it, the earth supports him who digs it.
