  1. பாம்பு பசிக்கில் தேரையைப் பிடிக்கும். அதுபோல, சிறியோர்
    சிறிய காரியங்களையே செய்வார்.
    When a snake is hungry it will catch a frog, so the vile perform only mean acts.
  2. பாம்பு தின்கிற ஊரிலே போனால் நடு முறி நமக்கு என்று இருக்கவேண்டும்.
    If we go to a country of snake eaters, we must be prepared for the middle bit.
  3. பாம்பு பகையும் தோல் உறவுமா?
    Is the snake hostile, and its skin friendly?
  4. பாம்புக்குப் பகை கருடன்.
    The hawk is inimical to the snake.

    Like reciting a portion of the vedas, to a cow about to gore you.
  9. பாய்மரம் சேர்ந்த காகம்போல் ஆனேன்.
    I have become like a crow on the top of a mast.
  10. பாய்மரம் இல்லா மரக்கலம்போல.
    Like a vessel without a mast.
  11. பாரபுத்தி உள்ள பறவை பதரால் பிடிக்கப்பட்டது.
    A wise bird has been caught with chaff.
