  1. ஒரு பனை இரண்டு பாளை ஒன்று நுங்கு ஒன்று கள்ளு.
    One palmyra has two spathes, one yields fruit, the other toddy.
  2. ஒரு பானைச் சோற்றுக்கு ஒன்றே மாதிரி.
    One grain suffices to test a whole pot of boiled rice.
  3. ஒரு பிள்ளை பெற்றவளுக்கு உறியிலே சோறு நாலு பிள்ளை பெற்றவளுக்கு நடுத்தெருவிலே சோறு.
    The rice for a woman who has borne one child, is on the swinging tray, that of the woman who has borne four, is in the middle of the street.
  4. ஒருபிள்ளையென்று ஊட்டி வளர்த்தாளாம், அது செரியாக் குணம் பிடித்துச் செத்ததாம்.
    It is said that having only one child she fed it well, but that it died of indigestion.
  5. ஒரு புத்திரன் ஆனாலும் குரு புத்திரன் ஆவானா?
    Although he is an only son, will he become an obedient disciple?
  6. ஒரு பொருள் ஆகிலும் எழுதி அறி.
    Though only one item, note it.
  7. ஒரு மரத்துப் பழமா ஒருமிக்க?
    What! did one tree yield all this fruit?
  8. ஒரு மரத்துப் பட்டை ஒரு மரத்திலே ஒட்டுமா?
    Will the bark of one tree stick to another?
  9. ஒரு மரத்துக் கொம்பு ஒரு மரத்தில் ஒட்டாது.
    The branch of one tree will not stick to another.
  10. ஒரு மனப்படு, ஓதுவார்க்கு உதவு.
    Be single-minded, assist those that teach the Vedas.
  11. ஒரு மிளகுக்கு ஆற்றைக் கட்டி இறைத்த செட்டி.
    A merchant who dammed up and drained a river to recover a grain of pepper.
