This is practically—23 h. 59+1/2 m. being taken as 24 h.—February 18th, Friday, 0 h. Laṅkā time, or 6 a.m., which is the time of the epoch according to the Ārya Siddhānta (cf. Jacobi, Ind. Ant., XVII., 159a). The difference is only 30 seconds, due to omission of that amount in the time fixed for K.Y. 3456 in Table I. (See "Hint" No. 20, above.) The time of true Mēsha saṁkrānti in K.Y. 1 current was really 20 h. 27 m. 30 s., not 20 h. 27 m.; and if we add the 30 seconds the result is precisely February 18th, 0 h, Laṅkā time. [Another way is to use Table XXXVIII.C., and apply the rule in § 54.]
Example 6.—The same according to the Sūrya Siddhānta.
Rule. Find the time of true Mēsha saṁkrānti according to the Sūrya Siddhānta from Table I., cols 13, 14, 15a, 17a., or as in Example 4 above. Add to this the śōdhya difference according to that authority, viz. 2 d. 10 gh. 14 p. 30 v., or 2 d. 4 h. 5 m. 48 s. This gives the time of mean Mēsha saṁkrānti.

| (Compare Examples 3, 4, 5.). In example 5 (b) we found the time of true Mēsha saṁkrānti in K.Y. 1 current, by the Ārya Siddhānta, to be exactly | 15 Feb. | 3 | 20 | 27 | 30 |
| Convert to the Sūrya Siddhānta by Table on p. 55 of the Ind. Cal., with an interval of 3598 years (A.D. 496 = K.Y. 3598 current) | − 6 | − 33 | − 18 | ||
| True M.S. K.Y. 1 current by Sū. Siddh. | 15 Feb. | 3 | 13 | 54 | 12 |

Answer. 18 h. Laṅkā time on February 17th, Thursday, 3102 B.C.
Example 7.—To convert the time of a mean Mēsha saṁkrānti found according to the Ārya Siddhānta into the same according to the Sūrya Siddhānta.
Rule. Apply Corrections I. (§§ 46–54) and III. (§§ 57–59) by Table XVII., or the Table on p. 55 of the Indian Calendar, and by the śōdhya time difference between the two authorities (+ 33 m. 18 s.) For K.Y. 4041 expired, A.D. 940 (Example 5a), we are given the time by the Ārya Siddhānta as on Tuesday March 24th, at 7 h. 52 m. 30 s. By Table XVII., Correction I is + 49 m.; the śōdhya difference
