in every Town where the Seal is, except Fairs, where he shall take one Penny Halfpenny of the Pound. (35) This Ordinance and Act the King willeth to be observed from henceforth throughout his Realm of England and Ireland, amongst the which People they that will may make such Recognisances (except Jews, to whom this Ordinance shall not extend.) (36) And by this Statute a Writ of Debt shall not be abated; (37) and the Chancellor, Justices of the one Bench and the other, the Barons of the Exchequer, and Justices Errants, Taking of Recognisances.shall not be estopped to take Recognisances of Debts before them knowledged and made:[1] (38) But the Execution of Recognisances made before them shall not be done in the Form aforesaid, but by the Law and Manner before used, and otherwise provided in other Statutes.[n 1]

In what Manner Execution shall be made of the Statute Staple, see 27 Ed. 3. stat. 2. c. 9. which is enforced by 15 R. 2. c. 9.  23 H. 8. c. 6. empowering the two Chief Justices, the Mayor of the Staple, &c. to take Obligations. And the 8 Geo. 1. c. 25. for supplying some Defects in the 23 H. 8. c. 6.

Certain Cases wherein the King's Prohibtion doth not lie.

Cases wherein the King's Prohibition doth not lie.THE King to his Judges sendeth Greeting.[1][2]Use yourselves circumspectly in all Matters concerning the Bishop of Norwich and his Clergy, not punishing them if they hold Plea in Court Christian of such Things as be meer spiritual, that is to wit, of Penance enjoined by Prelates for deadly Sin, as Fornication, Adultery, and such like, for the which sometimes Corporal Penance, and sometime Pecuniary is enjoyned, specially if a Freeman be convict of such Things. (2) Also if Prelates do punish for leaving the Church-yard unclosed, or for that the Church is uncovered, or not conveniently decked, in which Cases none other Penance can be enjoined but Pecuiary.
Tithes and Offerings.(3) Item, If a Parson demand of his Parishioners Oblations or Tithes due and accustomed, (4) or if any Parson do sue against another Parson for[3] Tithes greater or smaller, [4]so that the fourth Part of the Value of the Benefice be not demanded.
Mortuaries.(5) Item, If a Parson demand Mortuaries in Places where a Mortuary hath been used to be given.
Pension. Defamation.(6) Item, If a Prelate of a Church, or of a Patron,[5] demand of a Parson a Pension due to him, all
