$1 thereof will close the cirenuit through the actuating- magnets TL of
the hundreds-shaft ,
and the correspouding disk will alsa be ad- |
vanced ono step. Jn this way the total move- ments of the frames 34 and 35 or, in other words, the affirmative or negative votes will be totalized, The representation of the fig- ures on the number-disks will be enlar, weil and thrown ou the screen 85 of each totalizer, us will be understood. When the printing- drum has made a complete turn, movement of? the shaft 30 is arrested, the gtr ips 56 aud 57 ave torn off beyond the feed-rollers 60, and the lists of the votes can be then read. When it is desired to return the totalizers to sore, the switch 96 is closed, energizing the mas- nets 74 and shifting all, of the escapement- wheels 68 longitudinally of the shafts with which they turn. This movement carries each escapement-wheel out of line with the teoth of the escapement and perinits the shafts to turn until the wide tooth 72 of cach wheel cngaves the extension 73 of the escape- ment, at which time the zero of each disk will be disclosed. The switeh {G6 is now opened ard the springs 79 will return the es- capement-wheels to their farmar position, bringing them again into line with the teeth of the escrpements, ready for a repetition of the operations described.
In effecting a roll-call with the apparatus it will be only necessary for all the members to vote either affirmatively or uegatively, when the apparatus will obviously print a full list on one of the strips of all the mem- bers present, and one of the totalizers will in- dicate the total of such members.
Iaving now deseribed my invention, what Tolaiuius new, and desire to seeure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
1. In an apparatus for ascertaining and registoring the sense of an assembly, the com- bination with a receiver, of a series of trans- mnitting-stations,.2 eoutact device in cach transmitting-station, and a lock the move- meni of which effects the operation of tbe eontact device, substantially as set forth.
2. In an assembly voting apparatus, the
combination with a transmitter employing a contaet deviee and alock the barrel of which effeets the operation of said contact doviece, of a receiver clectrically connected to and operated by said tr ansinitter, substan tially as set forth,
3. In an assembly voting apparatus, tho combination with a trausmitter employing a eontact device, a lock the barrel of which effects the operation of said device, and means for locking the contact device in the position to which it may be moved, of a receiver elec- trically eonneeted to and operated hy said transmitter, substantially as set forth.
4. In un assembly voting apparatus, the combination with a transmitter enrploying a eontact-disk, two contacts codporating thero- with, and a lock the barrel of which effects
the operation of said disk, of a reesiver elee-
ve
trically connected to and operated by said transinitter, substantially as set forth.
5. In an assembly voting apparatus, the soinbination with a transmitter employing a contact-disk, two contacts coéperating there- with, aloek tha barrel of which effects the ap- ermttion of said disk, and means for locking the disk in either extreme position, of a re- ceiver electrically connected to and operated by said transmittor, substautially as set forth.
G6. In au assembly voting apparatus, the combination with a transmitter employing a contact-disk, means for operating said disk, aud means for locking said disk in either ax- treme position of movement, of a receiver electrically connected to and operated by said transmitter, substantially as set forth.
7. Tu un assembty voting apparatus, the combination with a trausmitter employing 2 eontact-disk, two contacts cobperating there- with, moans for operating the disk, and means for locking tho disk in eiLher of its extreme positions, of a receiver electrically connected toand eperaiet by said transmittor, substan- tially as set forth.
5. In au asseinbly voting apparatus, the combination with a transmitter employing a contact-disk, a pair of contaets cobperating Lherewith, means for locking the disk in cither of its extreme positions, and arestoring-inag- net for releasing the disk, of a receiver elee- Lrically connected to and operated by said transmitter, substantially as set forth.
9, In an assembly voting apparatus, the combination with a transmitter employing a econtact-disk, a pair of contacts coéperating therewith, a restoring-magnet, and an arma- ture for szid magnet for locking the disk in either of its extreme positions, of a reveiver electrically connected to and operated by said transmitter, substantially as set forth.
10. In an assembly voting apparatus, the combination with a transmitter employing a contact-disk, a pair of contacts cobperating therewith, a restoring-magnet, an armature for said magnet for locking the disk in either of ifs extreme positions, a slotted extension on said armature, and a pin on the disk co- operating will said slot, of a receiver clec- trically connected to and operated by said
transmitter, substantially as set forth. il. Inan assemb)y voting apparatus, the
combination with a transmitter employing a econtact-disk, a pair of contacts codperating therewith, a restering-magnet, an armattzre for said magnet for locking the disk in either of its extreme positions, a slotted extension on said armature, and two pins on the disk coéperating with said slot, of a receiver clec- trically connected to and operated by said transnuitter, substantially as set forth,
12. Inan assembly voting apparatus, the combination with a transmitter omploying a contact-disk, a pair of eontacts eodper ating therewith, means for locking the diskin either of its oxtzeme positions, and a lock the bar- rol of which effects the movement of said
