spread Protestant ideas when, as a result of some obscure quarrel, he surprised everyone by turning Uniate in 1896. He was a Syrian Uniate for nine years, and held the Uniate see of Ḥomṣ. Then, in 1905, he went back to the Jacobites, received again his see of Diyārbakr and a promise of the Patriarchal throne, when it should be vacant.
