THE HORRID MYSTERIES.

CHAPTER XIV.

I now shall bid an eternal adieu to my I friends, wishing to be remembered by them as often as the incidents of their lives may have some resemblance with mine. I do, indeed, not flatter myself that fate will suffer me to proceed in sweet tranquillity on my pilgrimage to a better world; however, as the future events of my life, probably, will be similar to my past adventures, I shall not trouble the patience of my friends by a communication of them. All that I have to add, is confined in the sincerest wish that the life of my friends may resemble mine as far as all the evils that have befallen me have contributed to put me in possession of a felicity, which, at present, is so complete, that it even does not require a witness.
