Gold and silver, tóu-shï (a sort of native brass), white jade, and crystals are the natural products of the country, and are very abundant. Bare precious substances of different sorts and various names are collected from the regions bordering upon the sea, and are bartered for merchandise. But in their commercial transactions, gold and silver coins, cowries, and small pearls are the medium of exchange.'
