THE VALIANT MAIDEN

Ye pretty maids that love
to play with Cupid's chainr
It's of a briſk young maiden
was ſparring on the plain,
It was with her true-love dilly
at ſhe did ſport and plav
The preſs-gang overtook them,
and preſe'd her love awav.

In floods of tears ſhe mourned,
ſhe ſigh'd and tore her hair;
Crying. I am undone for ever,
by loſing of ray dear
I wiſh the French may kill them
that preſs'd my love airay.
And Tend their bodies ſinkihg
for ever in the ſea.
