Apart from what has béen stated already, the above table shows also that Chijukya-Bhima Ps necession could not have taken place in A.D, 888 as stated by Dr. Fleet, for we have a record of the king that gives the date of his coronation as S,. B14 (expired), (Mdsha) Chaitra ba. dvitiyd, Sadi-dina, when the ‘moon was in the wakshatra Maitva (Anuridhi), whieh hax been equated to Monday, 17th April, 802 A.D. Thus the whole scheme of De, Fleet's arrangement falls to the ground?
VijayAditya (IV) is given the title Kaliyaitigagda, “ the hero who raised the sins of the Kali Age". Dr. Fleet wlio examined those plotes read the term an Kaliyarttiganda. The epithets Kahyatiganda and Koliyerttyaike, which occurs tu the Iféru plates of Amma 1,* have the same meaning, for ake and aakubira are the Telugu-Kannady synonyms of the Sanskrit word gayda, which means ‘a hero,” “a champion” or * a warrior’. The clue for the correct interpretation of these terms is found in the phrase ankahdras-sikshal, which occurs in a passage describing Gupaga- or Gupaka-Vijayaditya [11 in the Kaluchuthbarru grant of Amma II4
Of the several enemies whom Chijukya Bhima (If) is said to have conquered or killed befare he became king according to the other records of the family, only four, namely, Mallapa, his ‘on, Rajamdrtanda and the Rash{raleitas are mentioned in the present charter. Tha inscription states that king Bhima, the son of M@larhba ani Kaliyattiganda-Vijayaditya, who was endowed with tritlfulness, liberality, pride and majesty and all other vittues, conquered in battle Rajamirtinda, defeated the fierce Mallapa and his son, and then, having dispelled the darkness (thut overwhelmed the realm), i.c., the Rishtrakdtan, reigned in glory for twelve years. Till now Kijamirtinda has not been satisfactorily identified. Dr. Hultasch has suggested that Rija- inlirtinda might ‘be the same as Rijamayya’, and the identification may be for the present
