protects the three worlds, unlike the Maliyapund! grant which opens With an invocation to the igion, being a charity made for the Jaina faith. Lines 2-22 contain the usual prasasti alogy of the Eastern Chilukya dynasty, beginning with Kubja-Vishpuvardhana, the “brother of Satyaémya Vallabhéndrs down to Vijayaditya-Ammaraja II, the donor rat The genealogical portion does not give us any more historical particulars about he kings that preceded Amma I, than we know from the other records of the family. As usual Jayasihavallabha 1 ié given a period of 33 years, which Tr. Fleer, however, considered to ‘be incompatible with his adjustment of the reiyns of the other kines of the dynasty? 1 do not think that Dr, Fleet was justified in reducing the period of Jayasimhavallabha [ from 33 to 40 years; and hia reasons for so doing are not convincing. There is only a single record which gives the king a reign of 30 years while the entire range of the family charters, which number about fifty, are nnatinidiis in giving hitn a period of 33 years. Dr, Fleet's caleulutions and computitions are made, ad I have shown elsewhere*, upon certain misconceptions, The only reeord that, gives 4 véats’ reign to the king is the Padashkaliru grent of Ammaraja Il* which was composed by Widhavabhatta. ‘The seribe who engraved the charter on the plates must have committed an obvious error in omittiig the word trayas before trivisatam, for the edict on the Gandugolanu plates of the same king, which was-also the composition of the -soli-same poet Madhavabhatta, gives Jayasitnhavallabha.« reign of 33 years. swhiclvis in conformity with the statements of other re- cords! Similarly, Naréndrampigarija-Vijayiditya I ja stated to have reigned for 4) years im the present inscription and this length scems to be the correct period as shown by moe in my: Renised Chronology of the Rastern Chalukyo Kings*, a3 against the poriod of 44 years which waa allotted to bin in br. Fleet's Computation.© Iv is, however, needless to. repeat-here my reasons for aceupt- ing the period of 40 years, which T have stated at length in my Revised Chronology ; but 1 con+ sider it necessary to give | summary of the chronology of the kings as fixed hy me—from Kubja Viel rdhana to Chijukya Bhima I, for whose coronation we haye a recorded date— | le with Dr. Fleet's scheme of the Eastern Chalukyan chronology for easy reference.
