THE PICTURE ON THE S. L. COVER.

For some time we have been anxious to secure a desing that would represent our life in American, namely our American citizenship, our cultural work and our Slavic origin. We have finally selected the one presented to you on the cover of this issue. The original is a large painting made by the famous Ven. Br. Joseph Pondelicek of St. Procopius Abbey. Our heritage of faith is represented by Sts. Cyrill and Method. Our cultural work, education and religion is represented by the College, Seminary and Abbey of St. Procopius. Our churches, parishes and schools in America are represented by the Blanik Mountain and the Knights of St. Wenceslaus. And our American citizenship is represented by the Statue of Liberty.

In a narrower sense the picture represents St. Procopius College and Seminary, the leading American-Czechoslovak higher institutions of learning in America, whose object is to teach the faith of Sts. Cyrill and Method, and true American ideals as represented by the Statue of Liberty. Every year these institutions send forth students—the Knights of St. Wenceslaus, armed with true faith and love of liberty, who help carry on the work for God, faith and nation.

Roll on, thou deep and dark blue ocean–roll!
Ten thousand fleets sweep over thee in vain.
Man marks the earth with ruin—his control
Stops with thy shore.
