RIEDER, WILHELM AUGUST, born at Döbling, near Vienna, Sept. 30, 1796, died in Vienna, Sept. 8, 1880. History, genre, and portrait painter, pupil of Vienna Academy, and afterwards professor; in 1857 became custodian of the Belvedere Gallery; visited Tyrol and North Italy in 1830, Florence and Rome in 1833. of J. W. Schirmer, then lived for some time
in Strasburg and Frankfort, and settled in
Stuttgart in 1864. Medals: Carlsruhe and
London. Baden court painter since 1873.
