RESTOUT, JEAN BERNARD, born in Paris, Feb. 22, 1732, died there, July 18, 1797. French school; history painter, son and pupil of preceding; won the second prize in 1755, and the grand prize in 1758; then studied in Rome, returned in 1765, and was received into the Academy in 1769, but severed his connection in 1771, not wishing to submit to its regulations. Member also of Caen, Rouen, and Toulouse Academies.
