There is not the slightest chance of the Nationalist movement destroying this pseudo-military system in its home—North-China, no matter what the verdict of the battle-field may appear to be. It will survive every change of Government, every treaty, every declaration, every defeat, being the last monument of the West in the East and the most indestructible.
