the fayth of Jheſu cryſte/ and atte laſt the fader conſented to the reſons & predycacions of his ſone and byleuyd on the feythe of Jheſu cryſt/ & receyued bapteſme/ and lefte his royame hole to his ſone / & entended to werkes of penaunce/ and after fynyſſhed hys lyf laudably/ and Joſaphat ofte warned the kyng barachye that he wolde goo in to deſerte/ but he was reteyned of the peple longe tyme / but atte laſte he fledde aweye in to deſerte/ and as he wente in a deſerte/ he gafe to a pour man his habyte ryal / and abode in a ryght pour gowne/ & the deuyl made to hym many aſſaultes/ for ſomtyme he ranne vpon hym wyth a ſwerde drawen / and menaced to ſmyte yf he lefte not the deſerte/ and another tyme he apperyd to hym in the forme of a wylde beeſt/ & fomed & ranne on hym as he wold haue deuoured hym / and thenne Joſaphat ſayd / Our Lord is myn helpar/ I doubte no thynge that man may do to me/ and thus Joſaphat was two yere vagaunte & erryd in deſerte / and coude not fynde balaam and at the laſte he fonde a caue in the erthe and knockyd at the dore & ſayd/ Fader bleſſe me/ and anone balaam herde the voys of hym/ and roos vp & wente out/ and thenne eche kyſſed other and enbraced ſtraytelye/ and were glad of their
aſſemblyng /
