ouercome you ye ſhal conſente to vs/ and thys pleſyd wel to we kynge/ and to Joſaphat/ and whan they had ordeyned that he that named hym Balaam ſhold fyrſte deffende the feythe of cryſte/ And ſuffre hym after to be ouercomen and ſoo were all aſſemblyd / Thenne Joſaphat torned hym toward nachor whyche fayned hym to be balaam/ and ſayd balaam thou knoweſt wel how thou haſte taughte me/ and yf thou deffende the feyth that I haue lerned of the/ I ſhal abyde in thy doctryne to the ende of my lyf / and yf thou be ouercomen I ſhal auenge me anone on the myn Iniurye/ and ſhall plucke out the tonge out of thyn heed wyth myn handes / & gyue it to dogges to thende that thou be not ſo hardy to put a kynges ſone in errour/
And whan nachor herde that he was in grete fere and ſawe wel that yf he ſayd contrarye he were but dede/ and that he was taken in his owne ſnare / and thenne he aduyſed that it were better to take and holde wyth the ſone thenne wyth the fader/ For to eſchewe the perylle of deth/ For the kynge had ſayd to hym tofore them all / that he ſhold deffende the feythe hardelye & without drede/ thenne one of the mayſters ſayd to hym thou arte balaam / whiche haſt deceyued the ſone of the kynge/ and he
