pointed stick of bone with the butt end cut obliquely; a fragment, 18 cm long, of a narrow, hollow blade of antler, presumably of a knife for squeezing out water (compare Pl. 13.14). The broken end of a sledge cross piece, of whalebone, greatest breadth 5.7 cm. A knife handle, 24 cm long, of antler, with a blade slit in one edge near the point (Pl. 68.4. P4. 319). A broken bone handle for an adze or similar; a small wedge of antler (Pl. 68.9. P4. 313); two fragments of scrapers, of caribou scapula. As to the use of specimen Pl. 68.3. (P4. 318) nothing definite can be said; it suggests the "seal scratchers" which we know from Ponds Inlet but differs to some extent from them; it is of antler. Seven indeterminable objects of bone, including a thin point of ivory and a piece of a heavy whalebone board with a hole; 445 animal bones.
House ruin X. A moss-filled hollow, 3 m in diameter; a few large stones visible. Not excavated.
House ruin XI. A moss-filled hollow, 3 m in diameter. Like the foregoing a very old house ruin. Not excavated.
House ruin XII. Doorway and walls, in which there were five whale skulls, fairly well preserved; roof fallen in. Almost circular, 4 m in diameter. Not excavated.
House ruin XIII. A very small, moss-filled hollow, 2 m in diameter. Not excavated.
House ruin XIV. Moss-filled hollow with a few stones projecting; 3½ m in diameter. Not excavated.
Behind the row of houses in the upper group is a still higher shore ridge, on which are a small cairn and a meat cache.
House ruin XV. Lies isolated by the salmon caches a little above the salmon dam by the river; it is wholly destroyed through material having been taken from it to build a store house. A large quantity of bones lie scattered about. Not excavated.
6½ metres above sea level, one kilometre from the beach. This group lies on even, flat terrain which slopes gradually towards the beach and also towards the extension of the river; it consists of 5 ruins, first a row, XVI to XVIII, running NW.–SE., and behind this two ruins, XIX and XX; isolated, some distance from the others, lies XXI. The excavation area A is outside the doorways to XVI–XVIII.
House ruin XVI. Prior to excavation formed a flat hollow in the terrain, 4.2 m long, 3.7 broad, from which a doorway, 4.3 m long.
