The Booke

Teale and other wyld doule that ſwimmeth. A woodcocke is beſt from Octobe to lent, and ſo be all others bydes, as Ouſels, and Thuſhes, Robins, and ſuch other, Hearōs, Curlewes, Crane, (illegible text), Buſſarde, be at all tymes good, but beſt in winter, Feaſants, Patriche and Raile, be euer good, but beſt when they bee taken with a Hauke. Quayle and Larkeks be euer in ſeaſon Connyes be euer good, but beſt from Octobe to lent. A gelded Deare whether hee be fallow o red, is euer in ſeaſon. A Pollard is ſpeciall good in Maye at midſommer he is a Buck, and very good tyll Holy Roode daye befoe Myghelmas, ſo likewiſe in a ſtagge, but he is pincipall in May. A barren Doe is beſt in winter. A picket and a ſoell ſy(illegible text)er is euer in ſeaſon, chickens be euer good and ſo be pigeons if they be yonge.
