THE PHYSICIAN
The lightning spark, the flowering field,
 The chemic lore of every land—
All nature and all science yield
 Their tribute to his healing hand.

These garnered wonders of the earth
 He carries to each home of pain,
Where, through some spell of magic worth,
 His gentle strength brings hope again.

And rooms of darkness grow to light,
 And life beloved gains yet a span.
Hail him who stays the march of night,
 God's present minister to man!
