BESSA (Βῆσσα: Eth. Βησσαῖος), a town in Locris, so called from its situation in a wooded glen, mentioned by Homer, but which had disappeared in the time of Strabo. (Hom. Il. ii. 532; Strab. ix. p. 426; Steph. B. l. c.)
