Chanson d'un jour

From under the flying cloak od Joy you came to me
Dancing; yourself like a young Joy,
Clothed in threads of light, flowars twined about your feet;
Love, like a whote rose, breathing at your breast.

Like a grey swan over soft waters, glidingly,
You smiled beside me for a little way
Down the unwinding blue dust-road of life ---
And I caught one red drop, new from the heart of Happiness,
One little ray.....

Into the tomb of Memory, bearing crushed blooms from my Garden,
You, careless, went from me, letting the pale petals scatter
Into the hair of a dim wind that breathed like a sad autumn, sighingly,---
And I wept for a spilt drop, new from the heart of Happiness,
One little day.....
