German teacher, translator, and contributor to The Literary Magnet. Went by the name Joseph Gans, and wrote as "J. G—ns" or "J. Gans". May also have been the translator of "The Veiled Bride", another story from the same book as "The Dance of the Dead" and "Maredata", published in The Literary Magnet the following year
